USING THE BAGUA MAP
The feng shui bagua map is the foundation of black hat feng shui and it's easy to learn how to apply it to your space. The bagua map is made up of a grid of nine sections which are sometimes called gua's, palaces, sections or corners. Each of these nine sections of the bagua map correspond to nine important areas of your personal lives and have their own energy field within your dwelling. This bagua map identifies these energy fields for you.
By aligning the bagua map over your floor plan, you can locate the energy fields in your dwelling, and then learn how to enhance them thereby enlivening the corresponding areas of your life. Each of the nine sections of the feng shui map have their own prescribed objects, colors and shapes which you will learn about on this site and apply for enhancing the qi/chi energy. The feng shui bagua map is used the same way whether laying it over a floor plan of a house, office or a building of any size. It can also be placed over just one room at a time.
Orienting the feng shui bagua map is really easy, you just need to follow some simple feng shui rules. Usually you align the bagua diagram with the front door. The front door is the mouth of chi—it's where all the energy enters into your home. However, if your front door is blocked or NEVER used, then align the feng shui bagua map with the most commonly used door. To align the bagua map, imagine you are looking down on your house from a birds-eye view and then place the map over your house. The front door of your house should align with the bottom of the bagua map.
STEP ONE: Make a Floor Plan
To begin the process of aligning your home or office with the feng shui bagua map, you will draw the floor plan of your home. Be sure to mark where the front door is since the front door decides which direction the bagua map is placed over your floor plan. This floor plan will include everything that is under your roof or is a part of the foundation. This could include a garage, a patio, a porch or anything else that may be attached to your home.
Be sure to include the proper shape of your home on the paper, whether it's L-shaped, U-shaped, T-shaped, Z-shaped, square, rectangle, round or whatever it is. When drawing your floor plan, include any bay windows, architectural extensions and any indents or nuances to the shape. If you live in a two story or even a three story home or more, you will make a separate floor plan for each level. This includes the basement and the attic if they are walk-ins. If they are only crawl space, then it's not necessary. Although if you are not using any of these levels then there is no need to feng shui them. You don't have to feel as if you must feng shui all the floors at the same time. Begin with the first floor, and when it's completed you can move on to the other floors. The first floor is the most important floor since this is typically where the most amount of activity occurs. It is also where the qi/chi energy enters the dwelling via the front door and then meanders through-out the rest of the home.
STEP TWO: Make a Drawing of the Bagua Map
To draw the feng shui bagua map, use the same size of paper that you drew your floor plan on and make it to the same scale as your floor plan sketch. Make the map in either a square or rectangle shape, whichever is closer to the shape of your floor plan. The feng shui bagua map is actually an "eight sided" octagon shape. However it's converted to a square or rectangle shape, whichever is most similar to your floor plan. This makes it easier to work with.
Using a ruler, draw nine equal sections and label them section by section in the proper order. The easiest home to work with is one that is square or rectangle because it won't have any missing corners, but many homes are not perfectly one of these shapes and have missing corners that must be dealt with.
Now you must determine where to place the front door when the floor plan is superimposed with the feng shui bagua map.
When you make a sketch of the bagua map to superimpose with your floor plan, draw it in the shape of a square or rectangle, whichever is closer to the shape of your dwelling. If your home is a circular, then draw it as an octagon.
STEP THREE: Determine the Front Door Alignment
There are two different methods to discover which direction you will lay the feng shui bagua map over the floor plan. Both ways concern themselves with the proper alignment of the front door because the front door is where chi enters the dwelling and is considered the "mouth" of any dwelling. The compass method entails using a compass to discover which direction your front door is facing. From the compass coordinates, you will place your floorplan in alignment with the corresponding directions of the feng shui map. The other way is called Western, or Black Hat method of laying the bagua map. It is a simple technique to use and doesn't require the use of a compass.
Compass Method of Defining the Bagua Map
Using an ordinary compass, you will find which direction your front door faces. Or you can use the compass in your cell phone to get the directions of the bagua map. Compasses are sensitive to metal, and you won't get an accurate reading if you are near metal. So remove any metal, like watches etc. and don't stand near cars when using your compass.
Western Method of Defining the Bagua Map
To use the western method, you will superimpose your floor plan with the bagua map by aligning the front door along the bottom of the bagua map.
If you have missing areas, you may have greater difficulty in that corresponding area of your life. For instance, if you move into a house with the relationship corner missing, you may suffer marital problems or tumultuous relationships with business colleagues. You need to pay special attention to the missing areas by either symbolically or literally filling them in and adding the appropriate feng shui cure. If you can, fill in the missing part on the outside with a covered structure, deck, light, plant, pole, decorative stone, beautiful landscaping or buried quartz crystal to complete the area. If you can’t do anything to enhance the outside, then you can work from the inside. Place a mirror, light or other feng shui cure on the indented wall or wall closest to the missing bagua area. If there are windows in the area, you can also place a crystal in the window to enhance and circulate the chi. Extensions, on the other hand, can be very beneficial. If you move into a home with an extension in the abundance area, you may find that you experience greater prosperity and financial wealth.
