    Chakra Meditation: 8 Steps To Practice

    The following steps describe how to practice a chakra meditation to balance and align your chakra energies. It is brought to us by Holistic Review Quarterly
    Chakra meditation begins by sitting in a comfortable position with your spine straight, but not ridged. You then want to focus on each part of your body starting with your feet and working up. As you do this, have that part of the body relax and let the stress melt away.
    The next step in chakra meditation is to focus on the breath. Do not force it, but let the breathing become steady and deep. The mind will most likely wonder, just gentle bring it back to the breath and maintain the focus on each inhalation and exhalation you take. Visualize the oxygen coming into your lungs and passing into the bloodstream. Visualize it nourishing all the muscles, organs and cells of your body and then see it removing the toxins from your body which you expel with each breath.
    Next in chakra meditation you want to visualize the beating of the heart and the perfect function of the body. See how all the parts work together in complete harmony. See how the breath sustains all these parts and the body as a whole. Become aware of how the breath is the life giving force of the entire organism you call your body.
    Next in chakra meditation you should imagine a life giving energy that you are breathing in along with the air. See this energy as a yellowish orange color. See this energy encompass your entire body and infuse your aura. As this energy infuses your aura, imagine the aura growing stronger, brighter and being charged with this incredible energy. Do this step gradually, let the aura grow brighter little by little and keep this energy flowing in with each breath.
    The next thing we want to do in chakra meditation is energize each individual chakra. Start with the root chakra in the lower back. Imagine a clockwise swirl of energy and the energy you breath in feeds this swirl and makes it strong and brighter. We want to next imagine another source of energy that is coming up from the earth. This is the same life giving energy and it adds to the swirling energy at the root chakra.
    Next in chakra meditation we want to move up to the sacral chakra. Then one by one the solar plex chakra, heart chakra, throat chakra, head chakra and finally the crown chakra, infusing each with the life giving energy. Take your time with this and do not worry about spending more time on one chakra if you need to. It is strongly advised to always work from the bottom, going up and not skip around. Each chakra will influence the other chakras and energizing a higher chakra before a lower chakra could have an adverse effect.
    The last step in chakra meditation is to visualize all the chakras at once being feed by this energy coming in from the breath and up from the earth. Remember to see the chakras and your aura become brighter, clearer and super charged from this life giving energy.
    Finally we can open our eyes and relax a couple minutes with our eyes open. Pay attention to your body and how incredible and energized you now feel. Try to practice 15 – 30 minutes each sitting. Enjoy, this is a really good, uplifting chakra meditation.

    Using Affirmations To Balance The Chakras

    Using the power of affirmations is one of the most effective ways to balance our chakras. Our thoughts create our reality, and by regularly practicing positive chakra balancing affirmations, we can achieve astonishing results in our lives

    Chakra is a Sanskrit word which literally translates into a spinning wheel. According to ancient yogic traditions, there are seven major chakras or energy centers in our body. Each of these chakras corresponds to a particular color-coded vibrational frequency in the universe which influences our physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. When our chakras are perfectly aligned with the universal flow of energy, every aspect of our life becomes harmonious and joyful. We reclaim perfect health, and our love and passion for life becomes renewed.

    When using the following affirmations, sit or lie down in a quiet place and focus on the location of each chakra. As you speak out or silently meditate on each affirmation, visualize a wheel spinning face-up in a clockwise direction in the specific color frequency of each chakra:

    1. Root Chakra – The root chakra is located at the base of our spine and corresponds to the color red. This chakra relates to our basic human instinct for survival, security and stability.

    Affirmation: “I am a divine being of light, and I am peaceful, protected and secure.”

    2. Sacral Chakra  The sacral chakra is located just below our navel in our lower abdominal region. The color of this chakra is a deep, saturated orange and relates to reproduction on a physical level, creativity and joy and relationships on an emotional level and our energy and passions on a spiritual level.

    Affirmation: “I am radiant, beautiful and strong and enjoy a healthy and passionate life.”

    3. Solar Plexus Chakra – This chakra is located above our navel and directly in our stomach area. The solar plexus chakra therefore plays a vital role in digestion and glows in a bright yellow color. This chakra deals with growth and pertains to issues of the intellect, personal power, control and spiritual evolution.

    Affirmation: “I am positively empowered and successful in all my ventures.”

    4. Heart Chakra – The heart chakra is located in the center of the chest and spins with the vibrant green color of spring. This chakra is one of the most important meditation tools for cleansing and clearing spiritual imbalances. The key issues related to the heart chakra are unconditional love, compassion and wellbeing.

    Affirmation: “Love is the answer to everything in life, and I give and receive love effortlessly and unconditionally.”

    5. Throat Chakra  This chakra is centered in our throat and exudes a pale blue light. The throat chakra governs our ability to express and communicate clear thoughts and ideas. It is also related to truth, maturity, independence and the ability to trust others.

    Affirmation: “My thoughts are positive, and I always express myself truthfully and clearly.”

    6. Third Eye Chakra  The third eye chakra is positioned in the center of our forehead, between our eyebrows. Also known as the brow chakra, it spins in a deep saturated dark blue hue and helps us tap into our inner guidance and divine vision. This chakra deals with developing intuitive clarity, releasing repressed emotions and attaining self realization.

    Affirmation: “I am tuned into the divine universal wisdom and always understand the true meaning of life situations.”

    7. Crown Chakra – The crown chakra is located at the top of our head or in the crown area and corresponds to the violet color. The role of this chakra is based in awakening consciousness and attaining enlightenment through the integration of the self into the one universal form of intelligence.

    Affirmation: “I am complete and one with the divine energy.”

    Chakra balancing affirmations can create extraordinary revolutions in our spiritual healing journey. There can be nothing more effective and transformative than using your very own power of thought to bring positive changes in your body, mind and soul.  ​
    Using Color Vibration To Balance The Chakras

    When exposed to different types of colors that all have a different vibration, our physical state, emotions and moods can be changed. We are able to rebalance the Chakras by exposing our body to different colors in our homes, our food and the clothes that we wear. Other ways to absorb colors is to wear color glasses that absorb the vibrations needed in our bodies.

    The colors of the chakras are related to the seven basic energy centers in the body.
    Each of the chakras correlate to a major nerve ganglia branching out from the spinal column. In addition the chakras are correlated to sounds, body functions, and much more.

    Violet (purple) is the color of the Crown chakra, also known as Sahasrara. This chakra is located at the top of the head. The Crown chakra is linked to the crown of the head, nervous system, and the brain, and is representative of pure thought. This chakra connects one with the infinite consciousness. Opening this chakra will help tap into a deep spiritual understanding. Gemstones that will aid the Crown chakra include diamond and clear quartz.
    Indigo The color of the Brow or Third-Eye chakra, also known as Ajna. This chakra is located between the eye brows. This chakra is our link to the universal unconsciousness. Opening this chakra can aid in clear sight, intuition, integrity, and lessens feelings of despair. Gemstones amethyst, moonstone and augilite.

    Blue The color of the Throat chakra, also known as Visuddha. This chakra is located in the throat. It is linked to the throat, neck, hands, and arms. The Throat Chakra is connected with speech and hearing, and encourages spiritual communication.Opening the Throat chakra improves clairaudience. Gemstones that will aid the Throat chakra include turquoise, aquamarine, lapis, sodalite, quartz, angelite, aqua aura.

    Green  The color of the Heart chakra, also known as Anahata. This chakra is located at the center of the chest area and is linked to this entire area, the heart, lungs, circulatory system, and cardiac plexus. The Heart Chakra bridges the gap between the physical and spiritual worlds. Opening the Heart chakra allows a person to love more, empathize, and feel compassion. Gemstones that will aid the Heart chakra include emerald, tourmaline, aventurine, malachite, rose quartz, and rhodonite.

    Yellow The color of the Solar Plexus chakra, also known as Manipura. This chakra is located in the stomach area and is linked to organs &muscular system in that area. The Solar Plexus chakra is representative of vitality and will. When this chakra is open, it acts to empower a person and help them find their personal strength. It will help turn dreams and goals into reality. Gemstones that will aid the Solar Plexus chakra include amber, topaz, citrine, yellow calcite, yellow jasper.

    Orange The color of the Sacral chakra, also known as Svadhisthana. This chakra is located beneath the naval, close to the genitals. The Sacral Chakra is linked to the sexual organs and reproductive system. Opening this chakra will free fertility and inherent creativity. The Sacral chakra stimulates sexuality and emotions. Gemstones that will aid the Sacral chakra include carnelian, coral, orange jasper, orange jade.

    Red  The color of the Base or Root chakra, also known as Muladhara. This chakra is located at the base of the spine and allows us to be grounded and connect to the universal energies. First chakra, base of the spine. Groundedness, trust, belonging, lessens feelings of mistrust. Gemstones that will aid the Root chakra include lodestone, ruby, garnet, smokey quartz, obsidian, hematite and onyx.
    Using Massage To Balance The Chakras

    Massage is another common technique used for Chakra healing below is the massage methods used on each of the Chakras:

    The Root Chakra
    Massaging the gluteal muscles, legs and feet encourages energy flow better known as prana in this region.
    The Sacral Chakra
    Myofascial release for the hip flexors along with releasing the iliopsoas muscle helps to release tension in the hips. This helps them to open up for energy flow to the Sacral Chakra.
    The Solar Plexus
    This area is massaged by applying oils to the abdomen area using clockwise directions around the area of the navel. This encourages waste elimination and improves the organ functions by bringing about conscious awareness to this “personal power center”
    The Heart Chakra
    Massaging the area of the upper back and a gentle traction to the shoulder joint and arm along with myofascial releases the pectoral muscles that assist in opening up this particular Chakra region.
    The Throat Chakra
    Gentle neck traction and release of restricted fascia tissues that surrounds the back and front of the neck is then followed by a gentle massage of the neck and the attachments to the base of the head.
    The Third Eye Chakra
    The massage used for the Anja Chakra includes a massage technique known as “brow stripping” that includes the muscles in the jaw area, temples and nasal sinuses.
    The Crown Chakra
    A scalp massage furthers the connection to the Crown Chakra followed by hair pulls and cervical traction to release cranial-tissue adhesion's.
    Using Music To Balance The Chakras

    Every Chakra responds to various Chakra Sound Healing Frequencies. Some of the popular techniques include the Solfeggio that is music frequencies used to create healing sounds. Another type of music commonly used would be the Isochronic Chakra Suite that are brainwave entrainment techniques that include Tibetan singing bowls combined with Solfeggio frequencies.
    Using Chakras Stones/Crystals To Balance The Chakras

    The Chakra stones are known as healing crystals that contain specific colors and vibrations. Every Chakra has a specified color, and this same color can be used in Chakra healing. However, even though the majority of stones with a certain color will be used to heal a specific Chakra, there are a few stones that can be utilized to heal multiple Chakras i.e., Clear quartz.

    Using Yoga To Balance The Chakras

    When the wheel-of-energy or a Chakra is stuck it can be beneficial to release the energy or prana using movement. Yoga postures have been recognized as a fantastic technique to release stuck or stagnant energy out of the body. This encourages the flow of vital and fresh energy back into the body through breath and postures.

    1st Chakra (Muladhara) 
    Virabhadrasana I, or Warrior I, is a great pose for the first chakra. It connects you to the earth, giving you a strong foundation in the feet. With the root chakra located at the base of the spine in the pelvis, the hips get a nice stretch in this pose, releasing stale energy.

    2nd Chakra (Svadhisthana)
    Baddha Konasana, or Bound Angle Pose, is appropriate to balance the second chakra. This hip opener once again brings attention to the pelvic region, where this chakra sits closely to Muladhara. Stretching the groin area helps to release tension in the seat of Svadishtana.

    3rd Chakra (Manipura) 
    Navasana, or Boat Pose, helps to stimulate the third chakra. Located at the solar plexus, this posture activates the fire of Manipura and connects us to our center.

    4th Chakra (Anahata) 
    Ustrasana, or Camel Pose, opens up our heart center. We often protect our hearts and close them off to vulnerability, which may limit our experiences. When we expose our hearts we can invite more love and give more love out, thus balancing Anahata.

    5th Chakra (Vishudha)  
    Matsyasna, or Fish Pose, releases our throat chakra. Stretching out our throats permits us to freely express ourselves through our unique voices.

    6th Chakra (Ajna) 
    Child's Pose connects the third eye to the floor, stimulating our center of intuition. By physically activating and bringing awareness to Ajna, we may be able to access our great inner wisdom. You can also stack your fist under your third eye for more stimulation.

    7th Chakra (Sahasrara)  
    Sirsasana, or Headstand, activates our crown chakra by placing pressure on the tops of our heads. The seventh chakra is the gateway to universal consciousness, and when stimulated we bring attention to this area and can connect to our higher self.
